China's commodity hunger
Implications for Africa and Latin America
servlet/reweb2.ReWEB?rwsite=DBR_INTERNET_EN-PROD Dear reader, We have just issued the following publication "Current Issues": China's commodity hunger Implications for Africa and Latin America As China will remain hungry for commodities over the coming 15 years - our forecast model projects lower double digit demand growth rates for most commodities - we expect especially oil and metals exporters in Latin America and Africa to continue to benefit from surging Chinese imports. Chinese investments in the two regions are set to increase as well. However, these economies need to invest the commodity windfalls wisely (e.g. in human capital, infrastructure) to promote broad economic development and a shift towards sectors that create more value added than the pure extraction of natural resources.
