Funding/Grants/ Fellowships and Employment
The United States Embassy in Israel is accepting applicants for its Israeli-Arab Scholarship Program (IASP), which offers two-year scholarships to outstanding Israeli-Arab students to pursue graduate programs in the United States during academic year 2007-2008. Applicants must be citizens and residents of the State of Israel. Scholarships are offered in all fields, except medicine, for study towards the master's degree or doctorate. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic excellence, TOEFL and GRE/GMAT scores, and committee interview. Deadline for submissions: April 30, 2006.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, the Fritz Thyssen
Foundation, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin invite scholars to apply for ten
postdoctoral fellowships for the program: "Europe in the Middle East; the Middle East
in Europe." The fellowship is to begin October 1, 2006 and end on July 31, 2007 and
is intended for scholars of history, literature, philology, political philosophy,
religion, and sociology from the Middle East. Applicants must have completed their
doctorates no earlier than 1998 and must apply in relation to one of the four research
fields. Applications must also include a CV, a two to four page project sketch, a sample
of scholarly work (maximum 20 pages from an article, conference paper, or dissertation
chapter), and an evaluation by one university instructor. Application deadline (to be

Disability Studies Quarterly
(Summer 2007) International Section is calling for papers in Hebrew and Arabic. This section of DSQ aspires to provide a varied account of research, personal narratives, descriptions, and analysis on the state of affairs of disability in Israel/Palestine to an English-reading public. Although the readership is international, and inquiries are welcome in Hebrew and English, papers must be submitted or translated into English. Authors of various disciplines, including applied professions, humanities, social sciences, and law are welcome. Theme: "Crossing Jordan." The conference will focus on the many peoples and cultures who have "crossed Jordan" from the earliest times to the present.
