Re-interpreting the rights-based approach –

a grassroots perspective on rights and development

Welcome to the Global Poverty Research Group (GPRG) website.

The GPRG is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded research group of economists, political scientists, sociologists and anthropologists undertaking a multi-disciplinary programme of work investigating issues of poverty, inequality and the quality of life.

The research group aims to enhance the value of individual research by providing collaborative infrastructure and facilitating active partnerships with the research user community.

Researchers within the GPRG are undertaking a wide range of research, the most important elements of which can be found on this web site.

The research is organised around five themes and details of the projects under each theme are given below. This research links closely with other research programmes being undertaken both at the CSAE and IDPM and links to those research programmes are provided.

The broad objective of the Research is to extend understanding of how poverty can be best understood and reduced using a variety of disciplinary and methodological approaches.
